What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process and heal from distressing or overwhelming experiences.

At times, certain experiences can feel “stuck,” continuing to impact how you think, feel, and respond in the present. EMDR works by helping your brain reprocess these experiences so they feel less intense and no longer carry the same emotional weight.

In session, EMDR involves briefly focusing on a specific memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements or tapping). This process supports your brain’s natural ability to integrate the experience in a more adaptive way—often leading to shifts in emotions, beliefs, and physical responses.

While EMDR is a central part of my work, I take an integrative approach to therapy. I also incorporate cognitive and behavioral strategies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), to support skill-building, emotional regulation, and practical tools for day-to-day life.

Together, we tailor the approach based on your needs—whether that means building coping skills, processing past experiences, or both. This work is done at a pace that feels manageable and supportive, with a focus on helping you feel more grounded and connected over time.
